"Corel Corporation"

The Quattro Pro is a spreadsheet program developed by Borland, which was later acquired by Corel, and is in direct competition with the dominant spreadsheet application for business software, Microsoft Excel. According to recent surveys, Quattro Pro is the second most widely used spreadsheet program in the world (after Excel, of course), but it runs on a distant second, with Excel dominating about 95% of productivity needs of most users around the globe. Similar to Lotus 1-2-3, Quattro Pro was first shipped and released as a DOS program, and was later rewritten to be adapted to the Windows platform. In fact, their capabilities are so identical that Lotus later filed a lawsuit against Borland, which Borland later won (although at that time the spreadsheet was already sold to Novell, who later sold it to Corel). Quattro Pro’s native file extension is .qpw.

Quattro’s name came as a reference to Lotus 1-2-3, since “Quattro” is the Italian for four, meaning that it’s “more” than what Lotus currently offered. It was later changed to “Quattro Pro” when it was released in 1989. Although Quattro Pro is mostly used only by obscure computer technicians, it and WordPerfect are still updated and developed in a regular basis.
