"We will help you handle your file"

The Akamai NetSession Interface is a type of a peer-to-peer (P2P) technology developed by Akamai Technologies, Inc., similar to such programs as Kazaa or Limewire. However, one advantage of the Akamai NetSession Interface is that while these two applications are mostly used for people who use the programs to find specific files on its network, the Akamai NetSession Interface serves files that can be accessed or requested anywhere from the Internet.

The developer, Akamai, claims that for example, when you download a file from Autodesk or Adobe, you may not actually be pulling a file off their servers – you may actually downloading a file from a computer with an Akamai NetSession Interface installed!

To make it as simple as possible, it is a good idea to understand how Akamai works. Akamai mirrors the files from its customer’s servers (usually websites), so when the user downloads a file from them they are actually downloading from Akamai’s server instead of the customer’s. Akamai claims that this is faster and more efficient, since it frees up bandwidth and network congestion from the customer’s server, and ensures that the end user (the computer that requests the content) can download from the nearest Akamai server.
