"Winamp — It really whips the llama's ass!"
The xDark Winamp Pro Plus is a third-party release of Winamp that contains a suite of various plug-ins and its main skin, the Winamp Essentials Ebonite Skin, plus support for 16 languages and native support for common video formats without having to install additional codecs. The eMusic Promotion feature present in standard Winamp installations is also removed.
Winamp, developed by Nullsoft (now wholly owned by AOL), is a music and media player for several platforms, such as Windows, Android, and Mac OS X. Winamp was first released in 1997 and has redefined the new era of software for its modular design and extensibility via the use of skins and plug-ins, some of which are made by third parties. Winamp is distributed by a freemium model – where the core application is provided free of charge, but several functions need to be purchased to unlock them. Winamp’s impact on popular and Internet culture was so strong it is believed to have helped the standardization of MP3 files for audio files and popularized file sharing, giving rise to P2P and torrents. In fact, 3 years after its initial release, Winamp had gained over 25 million registrations.
