"FrostWire - Downloader, BitTorrent Client, Media Player. 100% Free Download, No subscription required."
Frostwire is a free and open source BitTorrent client, which first came into existence as a peer to peer file-sharing client that was based from the design and software architecture of Limewire, a very popular P2P client. Later, in version 5 of Frostwire, Gnutella support (the protocol that runs Limewire’s peer to peer standard) was pulled out of Frostwire, leaving it as solely as a BitTorrent client, a capability which it has acquired prior to this. Frostwire was first released in 2004, and has been developed and improved steadily since then; it was actually made as a response to an impending lawsuit against Limewire by RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America).
Frostwire has a lot of features, but most of these features come standard with modern BitTorrent clients. These include batch downloading and throttling of bandwidth and network performance, which makes it at par with more visible BitTorrent clients like uTorrent and Vuze. Frostwire became extremely popular after Limewire was finally shut down on 2010, but after version 5 was released, when Gnutella support was officially dropped from the software, users are forced to retain their old version 4 Frostwire to use its peer to peer file-sharing capabilities with its BitTorrent support.
