"Download the Microsoft Office Live Meeting Console"
The Microsoft Office Live Meeting is a subscription-based web conferencing service (with a client software free to download) run by Microsoft under the Office line of productivity software; this was originally a port of the Microsoft NetMeeting software, boosted by their acquisition of PlaceWare. Microsoft stresses that the service is licensed and not sold, since the client can be freely downloaded and it connects to a central server that Microsoft controls and regulates, depending on the user and the subscription status of the user. Microsoft also offers the Lync Server which is for enterprise conferencing software that is not bogged down by these limitations. The Microsoft Office Live Meeting works in Windows, Mac OS X, and Solaris platforms, and can be accessed through the web if the host of the web conference or meeting publishes an HTTP URL. The Microsoft Office Live Meeting users are expected to transition to Microsoft Lync Online, which would most likely replace most of Live Meeting’s functions and take over its user base.
The Live Meeting software enables voice and video chat, rich media presentations like Windows Media and Flash, VoIP, handout distribution (i.e. file transfers among participants), and the like.
